Founded in 2002, the Dutchtown High School Band Program has grown into one of Louisiana’s premier music education programs. Offering a diverse range of ensembles—including Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Indoor Percussion, and Varsity and JV Winterguard— the program is known for its unwavering dedication to musical excellence, student leadership, the program is known for its unwavering dedication to musical excellence, student leadership, and consistently delivering performances that set a standard of excellence.
Under the leadership of a dedicated instructional staff, Dutchtown’s concert ensembles consistently earn Sweepstakes and Superior ratings at LMEA District and State Assessments. The Symphonic Winds have represented the program on a national level, including a featured performance at Carnegie Hall, where they earned the Outstanding Soloist Award and worked with world-renowned composer Frank Ticheli. In 2023, Symphonic Winds performed at the prestigious National Music for All Festival in Indianapolis, and in 2015, the ensemble was also selected by the National Adjudicators Association to perform in the GNAI Dixie Classic Festival in Chicago.
Dutchtown High School consistently boasts one of the highest numbers of students selected to prestigious honor ensembles across the state. In 2022, 2023, and 2024, more Dutchtown students earned spots in the District IV Honor Band and the Louisiana All-State Band than any other school in the region. This remarkable achievement reflects the program’s emphasis on individual musicianship, rigorous preparation, and fostering leadership.
The Dutchtown Sound Marching Band is a cornerstone of the program’s success, earning numerous first-place, caption, and grand champion awards at local, regional, and state competitions. In 2023, the band was named Louisiana Showcase of Marching Bands Grand Champion, with awards for Most Outstanding Music, Most Outstanding Soloist, First Place Colorguard, and 1st Runner-Up in Percussion. In 2024, the band followed up as State Runner-Up, earning Most Outstanding Music, First Place Colorguard and Second Place Percussion. The Dutchtown Sound was also invited to march in the Boscov Parade in Philadelphia in 2007
